Every year, November through March, the bull sharks infiltrate the Riviera Maya for their annual breeding season in the warm Caribbean waters of Mexico. This season lures experienced divers and thrill seekers from all over the world to catch an up close glimpse of these illusive creatures in their natural habitat. However, shark fishermen and poachers are causing havoc on the shark population, but with awareness and protection of these animals, they can continue sharing a respectful relationship with humans. What you saw and swam with in Riviera Maya last time was a whale shark. It's true that it's really big, and it could go bigger; as big as the busses you see on the road as time passes by! You were lucky enough to get this experience because most of the time, they usually swim in some of the deepest part of the ocean. It's not called the "gentle giants" for no reason!
